Discover X is an event that seeks to source for solutions to Africa’s problems through innovation, using technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and VR/AR/MR. A major objective of Discover X is to encourage collaboration between stakeholders in Africa’s tech ecosystem; from the startups and large organizations that are in need of value-adding products to market, to hubs and universities where talents can be sourced.
From June 1-3, 2020, innovators from across the globe including software developers, graphic designers, and user experience specialists are expected to converge in Lagos State, Nigeria for a 48-hr hackathon. They will be building solutions to problems that have been identified by industry players from across different sectors including health, finance, transport, insurance, government, agriculture, and education. The problems would be documented in a white paper which would be produced from an Industry Hack event scheduled to hold in April, two months before Discover X.
The idea for Discover X was conceived by Victor Tubotamuno, founder of Spurbuddy, a digital design agency. Mr. Victor has extensive experience in organizing hackathons having done so in collaboration with the Rivers State University and Startup Port Harcourt Week.
According to Mr. Victor, Discover X is not just another hackathon event. He comments that, “the mission is to champion a culture of innovation and disruption in African companies.” Solutions that will be produced from the hackathon in June 2020 will be incubated in partnership with selected tech hubs to ensure that the products and/or services are brought to market.
As a result of the importance of such partnership, the Discover X team comprised of volunteers with experience in different fields will on January 25th, 2020 play host to tech and community leaders to share ideas, network and seek their commitment to be active supporters of Discover X. The venue for this event titled Frame X will be at Cedar Hive, Ikoyi.
