Nigeria’s startup ecosystem is valued at $2billion. This is according to a 2017 report published by Startup Genome. Although this figure only reflects the Lagos startup ecosystem, other Nigerian cities have in recent times witnessed a rising interest in startup activities and they all have their own success stories to tell.
A tech ecosystem is an interconnected system comprised of several players that come together to develop novel products and services using tech. These key players may include startup founders, investors, startup companies, educational institutions, events, hubs and incubators.
Every Saturday, on ecosystembase we’ll profile notable stakeholders in the tech ecosystems in Nigeria. These stakeholders will include people, startups, schools, events, hubs etc. Today’s profile – the first of many – is on one of Port Harcourt’s technology hubs, SnapiLabs.
SnapiLABs is a Technology Innovation Lab where ideas, codes, frameworks, plugins, and passion are mixed to render services and build platforms that solve real-life problems. Created in 2016, it has since been involved in over 700 digital projects (web + app development, internet, and mobile marketing) and services for Individuals, SMEs, Corporate Bodies, NGOs and Government Agencies.
SnapiLabs offers training, internship, WEBx home kit and ‘netpreneurial’ incubation (+mentorship), all of which have been effective means used by the hub to empower and support over 10,000 young entrepreneurs in Africa by helping them create digital products and in setting up marketing funnels.
Notable among their products include Mobimatic, a cloud-based ‘drag and drop’ mobile app builder which can be used by just about anyone to build and publish android, iOS, web, and windows apps without prior technical knowledge. Mobimatic makes it easy to build enterprise and consumer apps in just a few simple clicks. It grossed $370,000 during launch week on the digital marketing platform, JVZoo with over 3,000 paid users who have built and published over 11,500 enterprise mobile apps.
Other products include ConvertPROOF, a Software as a service (SaaS) platform that helps users harness the psychological principle of the herd effect and the FOMO – ‘fear of missing out’ to double, triple or even quadruple the conversions on their salespage, optin pages, webinar pages, ecom stores etc., and VantagePoint, a cloud-based platform that allows you to combine the power of the internet of things (IoT), geofencing, mobile websites and loyalty programs for local marketing.
Besides activities organized by them, Snapilabs has been active in several other community events such as in playing host to the first Startup Grind meetup in Port Harcourt, by partaking in the Startup Port Harcourt Week Innovation Tour, and by participating in a 24-hour hackathon session during the 2017 edition of Startup Port Harcourt Week to proffer solutions towards the ease of doing business in Nigeria for which they won a grand prize of #150,000.
In just a short time since its creation, SnapiLabs has impacted greatly on the Port Harcourt tech ecosystem. This is worthy of commendation and we say keep it up!
