The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) will between the 20th and 23rd of February 2018 play host to the 1st International Workshop on Science Park and Innovation Ecosystem for Development (SPIE4D). The event which is in partnership with Ideon Science Park, and Lundavision, both in Sweden, will be held at the Princess Alexandria Auditorium, Nsukka Main Campus.
The workshop is aimed at identifying pathways for progress in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) ecosystem in order to promote the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs 1-17) for Nigeria’s economic transformation and national development. The international workshop will be a forum where local, regional and global actors from governments, academia/research, the private sector and civil societies can exchange ideas and knowledge, plans and practices on innovative initiatives aimed at addressing national development challenges geared towards progress in SDG 17 which focuses on STI priority.
Discussions will center on core areas aimed at enabling progress towards sustainable development namely;
- Skills Acquisition and Youth Employment
- Industrial Transformation
- Sustainable Agriculture through Tractorisation
- Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation.
With the inauguration of the first University-based incubator hub (Roar Nigeria), the Lion Laptop Assembly Line, and the Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy (HAINA), the University has demonstrated her strong vision to promote Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in an ecosystem for economic transformation and national development in line with United Nations SDG 17 and African Union’s 2063 Agenda on Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA) 2024.
Workshop participants will be exposed to recent trends in Science Park development, Innovation Ecosystem and Entrepreneurship using the Swedish model as an example. Among other renowned innovation experts, Dr. Sven-Thore Holm (founder & former CEO, Ideon Science Park, Sweden), Prof. Per Eriksson (1st DG, Swedish Innovation Agency & 153rd VC, Lund University, Sweden), Mr. Jonas Michanek, Dr. Andreas, Mr. Robert Keller and Ms. Anna Malkan will present papers.
